Developmental delay is characterized by children who do not reach their developmental milestones at the expected times. Developmental delays are diagnosed in one or multiple developmental functions, including: gross motor, fine motor, social/emotional, cognition and communication/speech. Children with developmental delays can experience feeding difficulties resulting from conditions such as swallowing dysfunction, oral aversions, and reflux.
